A holiday poem (and open invitation)

santa-on-bike-bigT’was the day before Christmas, the year two thousand one-five,Exeter’s forecast is in the sixties — a jolly day to be alive.I propose a bike ride. Meet at four Portsmouth Avenue,That’s home to Exeter Cycles, we’re putting together a festive crew. All clad in spandex, we’re basically all dressed alike,The common thread sewn through us all is our love of the bike. With Christmas just hours away, we all hope for a new Cannondale,In the meantime we’ll pedal, over hill and over dale,Like our ride last Black Friday, let’s pedal towards Lil’s in Kittery,The caffeine intake kept in check so we don’t end up too jittery.Bring five bucks in your pocket to cover the coffee and cruller,The alternative of sitting at home really just couldn’t be duller.Returning to four Portsmouth Ave, that’s our final destination,With your family that evening, you can watch Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.Once back in Exeter we can hang with JG, Shane, and Billy,You’re welcome to bring baked treats there too, or even whip up some chili.Because that’s just what cycling is all about, it’s comm-unity.Days like this don’t come ‘round often, don’t miss this opportunity.Last minute shopping is available. UnTapped makes the perfect gift! You'll be finished in minutes. Holiday buying's never been so swift.Oh what fun it is to ride a two wheeled open bike,A ride, friends, coffee, baked goods — what’s there not to like?Let’s meet promptly at nine, and roll out soon thereafter,This could soon be tradition, filled with camaraderie and laughter. All ages are welcome. All abilities: the same,Excuses, no thank you! ‘cause that would be lame.On Dancer, on Vixen, on Prancer, on Dasher!Come on out everybody, it’s surely a smasher. Then we hear the exclamation as we ride out of sight,“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
